Construction begins on first Building Better Regions Fund Project
Sod turned on $5.6 million Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre Expansion
Elite training facility will develop Australia’s most talented surfers thanks to $2.5 million from the Building Better Regions Fund
Construction of a world-class elite surfing training facility began today with the first sod turned on the $5.6 million Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre Expansion.
A $200,000 grant has been announced by the Australian government which will have lasting benefits for sustainably-grown rainforest timbers.
The grant to be delivered through Southern Cross University is being provided to the Subtropical Farm Forestry Association and Specialty Timber Growers Incorporated according to the Nationals Duty Senator for Richmond John Williams.
He said the project will involve the two groups assisting their members to promote, process and sell their sustainably-grown rainforest timbers using research to establish best practice in production and processing and achieving premium prices.
The contract has been signed and it’s full steam ahead for the upgrade of the Bangalow Weir Parklands.
In announcing that a contract has been signed to deliver funding for the project, the Nationals Duty Senator for Richmond John Williams said the Nationals promised Byron Shire Council $250,000 and now it was being delivered.
He said Byron Shire Council will contribute $110,000 towards the overall cost of $360,000.

Over $7.5 million has been announced for the four councils in the Hunter electorate to spend on roads under the first quarter payment of this year’s Roads to Recovery programme.
The Nationals Duty Senator for Hunter John Williams said Lake Macquarie Council is to receive $5.17 million for five major roadworks, Cessnock City Council will receive $1.49 million for eleven projects, Singleton Council has been allocated $506,00 for work at six locations, and Muswellbrook Shire Council is to receive $390,000 for two road treatments.
He said in some cases the councils will have to contribute from their own funds to meet the total cost.
