.$220 million initiative is designed to stimulate job creation and investment in regional Australia
·Six projects, totalling $7.7 million, will be delivered in the Richmond electorate
The Tweed in Northern New South Wales has started the New Year with a bang, following the announcement of $7.7 million in funding for six local projects under the Coalition Government’s $220 million Regional Jobs and Investment Packages.
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the Turnbull-Joyce Government is committed to stimulating job creation and investment in regional Australia by investing in key projects that support the region’s economic future.
“I am happy to be here today in South Murwillumbah to congratulate the local community on the delivery of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and five other vital local projects - as a local MP for the regional city of Toowoomba, I know how much these projects will help the local community,” Dr McVeigh said.
Deputy Premier of NSW and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the Northern Rivers Rail Trail shows what can be achieved when Federal, State and Local government work and invest together.
“This funding will see the construction of Stage 1 of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail which will be delivered by the Tweed Shire Council,” Mr Barilaro said.
“After a long fight, and a lot of work behind the scenes, I know local MP Thomas George will be delighted to be able to deliver this news to the people of the Northern Rivers,” he said.
NSW Member for Lismore Thomas George said as a long-term advocate of the project, he was pleased to announce this great news with the Coalition Government.
“This project offers real economic benefits, with its potential to create jobs, boost the local tourism industry and provide a valuable asset for the enjoyment of the local community,” Mr George said.
Senator for New South Wales John Williams said the initiative would see the Coalition Government investing in key projects that would allow the region to reach its economic potential and create jobs.
“We’re investing in education, providing $53,150 to the International Student Engagement Portal in Byron Bay that will link international students to education providers nationwide. We are also providing $880,000 to construct a Coastal Shared Pathway between Skennars Head to Lennox Head, creating 19 jobs during construction.” Senator Williams said.
